About The Dubai Mall

The Dubai Mall, a 12 million sq ft shopper’s paradise, is an integral part of the master-planned Downtown Burj Dubai by Emaar Properties. With a total internal floor area of 5.9 million sq ft, The Dubai Mall has 3.77 million sq ft of gross leasable space with more than 1,200 retail outlets, two anchor department stores and more than 160 food and beverage outlets.

In addition, an adjoining 5-star hotel, The Address Dubai Mall with 244 rooms and 449 serviced residences, and 14,000 undercover car park spaces spread across three lots are available to meet an expected 30 million visitors to the mall within its first year of trade.

At 12 million square feet the mall is equivalent in size to 200 soccer pitches and will feature more than 1,200 specialty stores in distinct retail category precincts. For the fashion-minded, The Dubai Mall pays homage to haute couture with more than 70 signature stores in Fashion Avenue alone, covering an area of 440,000 sq ft. Galeries Lafayette, France’s leading lifestyle retailer and Bloomingdale’s, America’s leading department store are the key anchors. This marks the first time both retailers are opening stores in the Middle East region.

The Dubai Mall brings together a superior retail mix unmatched by any other shopping mall in the world. The mall’s planned 1,200 shops offer customers the best in access, design and retail mix – with retail precincts that provide the greatest breadth and depth of products and services across all categories and price ranges.

A key centerpiece is Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo, which is one of the largest tanks in the world at 51m x 20m x 11m and features the world’s largest acrylic viewing panel at 32.8m wide x 8.3m high. With the capacity to hold 10 million litres of water, Dubai Aquarium illuminates the marvels of the ocean floor and showcases one of the most diverse collections of marine animals worldwide. Over time, Dubai Aquarium will have more than 33,000 living animals, representing more than 85 species including sharks and rays combined. Dubai Aquarium's 270-degree acrylic walkthrough tunnel makes for incredible close-encounter experiences with some of the most fascinating underwater animals on the planet. A special 'lunar-cyclic' lighting system changes the ambience of the tank depending on the time of day.

The adjoining Underwater Zoo is located above the aquarium, and takes an interactive approach to educating children and visitors on the ecology and sustainability of marine life through activities such as touch pools and glass bottom boats. Following the journey of a raindrop in the sky, falling from the tropical rainforest to the wide open seas, children can walk through various aquatic environments. The Underwater Zoo features a number of interactive features that involve human-animal contact.

The Gold Souk is a dazzling precinct showcasing a collection of over 200 of the region’s most trusted gold and jewellery retailers. The Gold Souk is designed to reflect the rich Arabic heritage blended with the modern features of The Dubai Mall. Highlighting the Gold Souk is the treasury atrium with a 24.2m x 12.6m dome, a dynamic projection ceiling featuring ever-changing design and images. Gold and jewellery can be readily purchased or tailor-crafted to meet a customer’s every need.

KidZania® is an award-winning children’s ‘edu-tainment’ concept that will be introduced to the region for the first time through an exclusive deal with Emaar Retail. KidZania® will be a 80,000 sq ft interactive mini-city that combines play with learning in a fun and innovative way. Featuring life-sized streets, buildings and shops scaled down to children’s size, KidZania® allows children to dress up and role-play as a doctor, chef or a car mechanic for example, and perform realistic tasks in a fun and meaningful way. There will be over 70 different roles to choose from at KidZania®, making visits new and exciting each time. A high ratio of trained staff-to-children and a wristband policy that keeps track of children’s activities and whereabouts reassures parents, who can drop off their kids and pick them up at a later time.

SEGA Republic is a two-level, 76,000 sq ft high adrenaline indoor theme park for the young and the young at heart. Based on the original Joypolis concept in Tokyo, Emaar Retail has partnered with SEGA Corporation to develop and build indoor theme parks across the region with the first being the flagship park at The Dubai Mall. Features include high adrenaline motion-simulated rides, an indoor spin-coaster and one of the largest selections of arcade and gaming machines in the world. Five themed zones in the SEGA Republic indoor theme park offer a different experience for visitors, ranging from a sports zone, to a high-thrill speed zone and a redemption game zone targeted at younger children. SEGA Republic in The Dubai Mall is one of the largest of its kind in the region.

The Dubai Mall also features the Olympic-size Dubai Ice Rink capable of hosting international, competition standard events. With a seating capacity of 350, Dubai Ice Rink is a family-oriented attraction open to the general public, with regular ‘learn to skate’ programs taking place. The rink also serves as a multi-purpose venue that can be transformed into a concert arena, or host private functions. A giant 20m x 10m LED screen is positioned at one end of the rink, and a selection of cafés highlight the area to create a leisurely and relaxing experience for the entire family. Located on the Ground Floor of The Dubai Mall, Dubai Ice Rink is a major attraction for the people of Dubai, giving them a year-round ‘winter holiday’ escape.

The Dubai Mall has the largest and most extensive Food and Beverage offerings within a mall in the region. There will be over 160 food and beverage outlets from fine dining to casual eateries offering a wide range of price, type and ambience to suit all customers. The mall’s promenade is lined with an array of themed cafés and restaurants, each offering an al-fresco dining experience with views overlooking Burj Dubai Lake and the tallest tower in the world, Burj Dubai.

One of the mall’s most unique precincts is an open-air streetscape that brings an outdoor community feel with tree-lined walkways, cafés and restaurants. The retail mix will focus on outdoor recreation and an active lifestyle. Featuring a fully retractable roof, The Grove offers a year-round outdoor experience.

Reel Cinemas is the ultimate destination for movie-lovers in the UAE and is destined to set a new standard for cinema with its flagship megaplex now open at The Dubai Mall. Spreading over 150,000 sq ft and located on the second level of The Dubai Mall, this megaplex with 22 screens seating more than 2,800 people has two lobbies, both of which can be accessed directly from the mall car park for the convenience of visitors. Showing a wide variety of movies from popular blockbusters to critically acclaimed films, this new entertainment attraction at The Dubai Mall is billed to appeal to all.

The aquatic theme extends beyond Dubai Aquarium with attractions such as The Waterfall, a beautiful indoor waterfall that cascades over the four levels of the mall. Along the mall’s sprawling waterfront promenade, is the world’s most spectacular outdoor Musical Water Fountain – The Dubai Fountain - with underwater lights, water jets and laser projections choreographed to themed music and songs. Spanning a length of over 275 m, the fountain’s powerful water nozzles shoot water sprays of up to 500 ft (equivalent to a 50-storey building).

The Dubai Mall will act as a gateway for those wanting to visit the world’s tallest free-standing structure, Burj Dubai. Tickets to the 124th Floor will be available exclusively only to visitors of The Dubai Mall, and will offer stunning views of Dubai. Access to the 124th Floor is via The Dubai Mall only, and further complements the mall’s world-class attractions.
